Police-Based Victim Services

Police-Based Victim Services is a program which provides information, support and referrals to all victims of crime.

Who is the Victim?

A victim is the individual, family or friend who has suffered or been adversely affected by crime or tragedy such as:

  • Homicide
  • Sexual assault
  • Residential break-in
  • Robbery/armed robbery
  • Sudden death
  • Suicide/attempted suicide
  • MVA
  • Family violence

Services:

  • Emotional support and understating for the feelings and fears that arise from victimization
  • Case information on your police file as it proceeds through the criminal justice system
  • Referrals to other helping agencies
  • Assistance with criminal injury compensation and restitution applications
  • Assistance with court order information
  • Assistance with Victim Impact Statements
  • Liaison with police, courts and other agencies to help negotiate the system
    Court procedure and accompaniment
