Nobody's Perfect Parenting Support Group in October

Nobody

In Ashcroft, the South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry is an agency that supports, educates, and encourages individuals to empower themselves to make positive choices for themselves and their families. This month, we will be offering a 3-session long meetup of the Nobody's Perfect parenting program. Check out our poster for more details. This program is offered across Canada through many different community-based organizations like ours. It is one of the ways that we can empower parents to strengthen their positive parenting skills.

What it is

For parents of children from ages 0-5, Nobody's Perfect is a facilitated parenting program. What does facilitated mean? This means that parents get together in a place where a discussion is led by a group leader. That is the what these sessions are about – parents getting together to meet each other, discuss real life parenting, share questions, concerns, and ideas with parents in the same situations, discover parenting strengths, and learn. Seesion topics aren't taken out of a book, they're based on the interests of the parents who are attending. The program is for parents who are geographically or socially isolated, young, or single – or for those who have low income or limited formal education.

Goals

The goals of Nobody's Perfect are these:
-promote positive parenting
-increase parents' understanding of children's health, safety and behaviour
-help parents build on the skills they have an learn new ones
-improve parents' self-esteem and coping skills
-increase self-help and mutual support
-bring parents in contact with community services and resources

After listing all those goals, the big question could be this: does it work? Yes! According to Nobody's Perfect's FAQ page, several major evaluations and studies have been done on the program and have found it to have a positive impact on all of its goal areas. Parents enjoy it!
